Pericnik Waterfall is a slender 52m high waterfall that cascades into the Vrata Valley in the Triglav National Park. The Vrata valley can be reached from the road between Lake Bled and Kranjska Gora, turning off at Mojstrana, about mid way between the two towns. The waterfall is about 4km along the Vrata Valley and there is a small space for parking a few cars.
We visited the waterfall at the start of our holiday in Slovenia, looking for a good location for a fairly overcast and dull day. The drive along the Vrata Valley is through pleasant woodland, but there are few obvious photo opportunities, and few places to stop. At one spot however close to a bridge over the river, we did manage some pictures.

The Vrata Valley
The waterfall can be photographed directly from the car park, but from here it is difficult to properly appreciate the size of the drop.

Pericnik Waterfall From The Road
There is a short steep path on the left side of the river that leads through the forest to reach the waterfall. As we discovered throughout Slovenia, the autumn colours in October are simply spectacular.

Woodland At Pericnik Waterfall
At the top of the path, the full height and force of the waterfall can be felt. The height of the fall is 52m, and looking at the top of the fall it can be seen that the water has carved several notches into the rock where the waterfall previously followed a different path.

Pericnik Waterfall
The waterfall has carved out a hollow into the cliff, and it is possible to walk behind the fall for a spectacular view. Be prepared to get wet however, as plenty of water also drips down from the cliffs above.
