About The Image
This is the oldest of my competition images, taken in 2011 during a trip to Sicily. We were in a group walking to the top of Mt Etna when we were informed it was erupting. We therefore made a rapid descent down some scree slopes, not so much for safety, but because we hoped to get a view of the eruption from lower down. As it happens, we did not see anything, but I was at the back of the group and took this shot of everyone kicking up the volcanic dust.
During my first season in LSAPS, we had a Set Subject on the subject of Movement, and I thought of this image. It won the competition. Later when entering exhibitions, I decided to try it out and was surprised at how consistently successful it turned out to be, gaining multiple acceptances in both BPE and International competitions, though it never picked up any awards.
