About The Image
My background is in landscape photography, so during my first season at LSAPS most of my club competition entries were landscapes. During the club summer break however we visited the 1940s event in Lytham where there are lots of opportunities to photograph vintage 1940s characters. I noticed this sleeping soldier and thought that would make a good story, so I was very pleased with my first effort at a character portrait. It performed quite well in the club competition the next season, so I included it in the first set of images I used when I started entering exhibitions.
Unfortunately it was not particularly successful, but in those early competitions I did not have other portrait images, so I kept using this one until it finally gained an acceptance. A similar pattern happened when I tried it in International competitions, except that when it was finally accepted, it also picked up a solitary award.
